Apo-E gene coded plasma protein takes a significant role in lipid metabolism. This gene has three important forms of appearance in population namely ε2, ε3 and ε4 allele. Among European population Apo ε3 allele is the most frequent. Presence of Apo ε4 allele on basis of standard literature data is accompanied by increased general level of serum cholesterol and beside other risks it predisposes extremely the individual to diseases of coronary arteries. Contrarily to it Apo ε2 allele defends against the above mentioned illnesses and shows coherence with a long, active life. The presence of Apo ε4 gene form solely or combined with any other mentioned allele does not mean definitely a supervention of a heart attack, though its risk grows significantly when other risk factors are also present. Based on all these criteria we can either call Apo-E gene as “manager gene” since in case of occupations with extra working speed and stress it’s very useful to know if our own genetic constitution has in itself further risk factor for coronary artery disease or rather resists to this disease. Therefore knowledge of genotype data referring to heart attack and atherosclerosis promotes a proper creation of our lifestyle.
